About ACTCOSS

The ACT Council of Social Service (ACTCOSS) advocates for social justice in the ACT and represents not-for-profit community organisations. ACTCOSS works to ensure that government policy improves the lives of people who face disadvantage and that community service organisations are adequately resourced and supported. ACTCOSS is a member of the nationwide COSS network, made up of each state and territory COSS and our national body, the Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS).

ACTCOSS’s Gulanga Program is designed to support ACT community sector organisations to develop and improve upon good, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander culturally appropriate practice standards to improve services for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The program employs Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander workers and aims to influence Government policy and services and provide better engagement with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander organisations, peoples and their families, to improve quality and access to the services that will best meet their needs.

The opportunity

As the peak body for the community sector in the ACT, ACTCOSS has unparalleled access to decision-makers in Government and in the community sector itself. This role provides the candidate with a chance to have a voice that is heard by Government and the opportunity to make a genuine difference in the ACT community.

The Head of Gulanga Program is a crucial role, leading this evolving Program to make change, and influence the future of local Aboriginal people and organisations.

The Head of Gulanga Program will lead the Gulanga Program in the development and implementation of a program of resources, trainings, individual organisational consultations and networks to support and promote good practice standards for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander culture appropriate community services.

The role will require development and maintenance of external relationships with ACTCOSS members; the ACT Government services and staff; Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community members; Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community-controlled organisations; and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples employed in the community sector.

As the Gulanga Program is evolving, this role also provides an exciting opportunity to have input into the future for local Aboriginal people.

Remuneration

ACTCOSS has above-award pay and conditions as part of the ACT Community Sector Multiple Enterprise Agreement (MEA).

The position is classified under the SCHADS award as level 7, pay-point 1, with access to annual increments. The annual wage for 60.8 hours is currently $89,782 plus 11% superannuation.
