About ACTCOSS

The ACT Council of Social Service (ACTCOSS) is the peak representative body for the social and community service sector and people living with disadvantage and inequality in the ACT.

ACTCOSS works to ensure that government policy improves the lives of people who face disadvantage and that community service organisations are adequately resourced and supported ACTCOSS is a member of the nationwide COSS network, made up of each state and territory COSS and our national body, the Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS).

The opportunity

This position is ideal for a person who is seeking an opportunity to work in an interesting and varied role, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and managing a small team. It would suit an energetic, passionate person who is interested in social justice issues and a more equitable society.

The Head of Policy is responsible for the day-to-day management of the policy and advocacy work of ACTCOSS, with specific responsibility for developing social policy positions, supervising research and advocacy relevant to social policy, co-ordinating government relations, implementing a media strategy, facilitating partnerships with advocacy colleagues, and organising policy forums and events.

Remuneration

ACTCOSS has above-award pay and conditions as part of the ACT Community Sector Multiple Enterprise Agreement (MEA). The position is classified at SCHADS level 7 or 8, plus 11.5% superannuation in addition to the base salary.
