About the job...

We are seeking a dedicated SafeKIDS Team Leader to join our inclusive, compassionate and friendly team based in Cairns. This position is full-time, fixed term to 31 December 2023. Extension of employment contract beyond 31 December 2023 is subject to the continued successful government funding of the program.

The SafeKIDS Safe House provides residential care to children 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In the role of SafeKIDS Team Leader, you will be responsible for leading a team to provide quality care and ongoing support to children placed within the home.

This role is Monday through to Friday (38 hours) but may also require weekends, evenings, sleepovers at the house, and being on call when required.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the provision of direct care and the creation of a warm, nurturing and culturally safe home environment for children and young people placed in the Family Reunification House.
  • Lead a team of House Supervisors and Residential Support Workers and work closely with the Program Coordinator and Operations Manager on the day to day running of the House.
  • Work closely and lead other members of the team to keep within Program guidelines, policies and procedures and to record data and information about the running of the house.
  • Create and foster a warm, structured, secure environment and maintain an accepting and supportive relationship with family and community contacts of each young person.
  • Lead a team of direct care team members in providing quality trauma informed care aligned to the Hope and Healing Framework to children placed with the service.
  • Participate in a positive manner in any internal and external case conferences, Department of Child Safety Youth and Women planning and review processes and other meetings as appropriate.

About you...

  • Hold or in process of completing a Degree in Community Services or other relevant field; or hold or in process of completing a Certificate IV in Child Youth & Family Intervention or other recognised qualification as outlined in the Strengthening the Queensland Residential Care Workforce – Minimum Qualification Standards Information Sheet.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience working within a trauma informed framework.
  • Experience in managing disruptive behaviours and mentoring of employees through challenging situations to ensure children in the house are given the best level of care.
  • Demonstrated ability to run a busy household.
  • Demonstrated skill, ability and experience in caring for and raising children.
  • Eligibility for a positive Working with Children Check Child (Blue Card) and Suitability Check (LCS2) to be engaged in the provision of care services by licensed out-of-home care service provider.
  • Current Senior First Aid certificate or the ability to acquire one
  • Completion of the Hope & Healing Foundations Framework online training.

About the pay...

  • Position is classified Level 5.1 – 5.3 under the SCHCADS award;
  • Salary range is $84,855 - $88,703 plus 10% superannuation (pro-rata for part-time);
