  • Primary location: ACT Greens Office (2/18 Lonsdale Street, Braddon, ACT) or remotely.
  • Job status: 10 hours per week plus TOIL.
  • Duration: 16 weeks
  • Reports to: ACT Greens Party Convenors, with tasks to be delegated by the Campaign Manager

About the role

The ACT Greens are looking for a politically engaged and creative Digital Communications Assistant and Content Creator to implement our social and digital media strategy in the lead-up to the 2024 ACT Legislative Assembly election.

The Digital Communications Assistant and Content Creator will report to the ACT Greens Party Convenors, with work tasking led by the Campaign Manager, and will work closely as part of a small and driven team with other members of the Party Office and Campaign Team. The Digital Communications Assistant will be responsible for producing social media content and ads, monitoring social media, and assisting with other content delivery. They will also assist in the structuring and publishing of web content, and work closely with the Campaign Manager on other digital communications tasks as they arise.

As part of the Greens’ commitment to staff, candidate and volunteer wellbeing, the Digital Communications Assistant and Content Creator will also be responsible for promoting a positive culture in our campaigns, and being sensitive to the physical and mental wellbeing of staff, volunteers and the broader community.

Key responsibilities

  • Responsible for implementing the agreed social media strategy and posting schedule in consultation with the Campaign Manager.
  • Developing and executing content ideas with an audience-first approach, in line with key campaign messaging across social media platforms, primarily Facebook and Instagram but also TikTok and other agreed platforms.
  • Monitoring and managing engagement with audiences on social media, including responding to DMs and comments sections on candidate, party social media accounts and the management of digital direct mail.
  • Flagging any risks or concerns on social media platforms, including the ACT Greens Facebook, Instagram and candidate pages.
  • Other tasks as prescribed by the Campaign Manager.

Key competencies

  • Experience in creating content and managing social media platforms, including a strong understanding of Meta Business Suite.
  • A strong understanding of social media trends and the creation of content that succeeds amid changing algorithms.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Strong awareness of, and commitment to, relevant requirements around attribution, permissions and copyright restrictions for photography, videography and design elements.
  • Strong political acumen and a commitment to Greens principles.

Desirable skills and competencies

  • Experience in political campaigning, particularly working on election campaigns.
  • Demonstrated experience using Canva, InDesign or other related digital design programs.
  • Photography and videography skills.
  • Skills in other digital creator content applications.
