ARC Justice is an independent, for-purpose, human rights organisation that incorporates the Loddon Campaspe Community Legal Centre, the Goulburn Valley Community Legal Centre and Housing Justice. We have offices in Bendigo and Shepparton and work with people in regional and rural Victoria who experience disadvantage relating to their housing, family, relationship, consumer, economic, social and civil rights.

About the role

The primary location for this position can be at either of our Community Legal Centres (Bendigo or Shepparton).

The role provides legal assistance to private and social housing renters in the area of tenancy law, with a focus on preventing evictions and ensuring renters have access to healthy and sustainable housing.

In this role you will work closely with Social Workers and Housing Advocates. Support from our other legal teams for intersecting legal issues to deliver long-term and sustainable financial, legal and social help to renters, leading to better housing and broader life outcomes. The integrated team works closely with our disaster-focused Community Engagement Officers and will be a key element of building our capacity to respond to climate related legal need.

This role will appeal to someone who likes to proactively network, be involved in community engagement and contribute to the design of statewide rental services. You will have opportunities to identify and respond to systemic issues strategically pursuing law and policy reform.

What you bring

  • Minimum of four years' experience (or equivalent) providing legal advice, casework and representation in the area of residential tenancies law.
  • Experience in implementing, advancing and reporting on projects and programs with a strategic focus.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • An ability to engage with people with experience of trauma and disadvantage.
