Advocare is the independent Seniors Peak Body in Western Australia and a leader in addressing the rights of older people.

For nearly 30 years, we have proudly helped older Western Australians access the right supports, information and protections available to them. We are a not-for-profit organisation, completely independent from aged care providers.

Our support and services are free, confidential and unbiased. Advocare aims to empower older people by giving them information and choices so they can make informed decisions to live the life they want on their terms.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Board Director you will contribute to maintaining and upholding Advocare's governance expertise and sustainability well into the future. The Board seeks out new members who have governance experience and qualifications (Australian Institute of Company Directors, Governance Institute of Australia or similar). Willingness to chair the Advocare Executive Finance Committee will be highly regarded.

10 monthly Board meetings per year, approximately 10 hours' commitment per month including preparation and commitment.

ABOUT YOU

Selection criteria for Board Members:

• Sound understanding of governance (governance qualification and experience highly regarded)
• Independence (no employment or governance roles with aged care organisations)
• Understanding of elder abuse and issues affecting older people
• Excellent leadership and communication skills
• Preparedness and capacity to dedicate the time required to support Advocare as a Board member
• In possession of a current Director Identification Number as issued by the Australian Government, Australian Business Registry Services
• Demonstrated Accounting, Finance and Investment experience and expertise (optional but highly desirable)
