ABOUT YOUR ORGANISATION

Aspendale Gardens Community Service (AGCS) is a busy and dynamic Neighbourhood House that has been operating for over 25 years within the City of Kingston. AGCS is a not-for-profit organisation offering a range of services to our local community including kindergarten, playgroup, programs and activities for adults, youth and children, as well as a range of community events. AGCS is a social house with many lively and active groups who enjoy being part of our extended community family and has a strong focus on engaging families, especially those with children. One of our largest programs is the Aspendale Gardens Giants Basketball Club – with 28 teams and over 248 players, it’s a growing and thriving club and a great success.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Community Development Facilitator is a key member of our professional, efficient and helpful team and will work in close collaboration with the Centre Manager and office team to support AGCS’s diverse, innovative and inclusive programs, activities and events. The role is 25hrs per fortnight and calls for strong basketball knowledge, program management and facilitator skills, creative thinking and planning, and the ability to liaise with diverse stakeholders. The position is primarily to facilitate AGCS' basketball activities including Junior Giants, children’s skills clinics, program and administrative support to the Giants operations as well as facilitating playgroup (mid-week and Dads Place).

ABOUT YOU

We're looking for someone with:

  • A qualification in a relevant field or working towards one eg Community Development, Sports Coaching, Community Services, Youth Work, Early Years Education etc
  • Excellent basketball knowledge and/or experience playing or coaching, or the broader community sports sector
  • Excellent working knowledge of childhood development, learning and engagement within best-practice frameworks including Child Safe Standards
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating group/community programs, especially those with children
  • Strong communications skills both written and verbal with volunteers (coaches/team managers), peers, stakeholders and participants
  • Strong ICT skills in Microsoft Office suite
  • A flexible and ‘can do’ attitude to work, with the ability to work in a very busy open office environment and balance their own work with meeting the needs of the community and public
  • Available Saturday fortnights 9.00-11.30am (penalty rates apply)
