The Accountant will report to the Finance Manager and is responsible for the provision of high quality, effective and efficient accounting services to the Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service (PAMS).

Based in Perth, the occupant will be responsible for completing month end reporting, providing financial data to internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring that the integrity of financial information and data is maintained.

The Accountant will also assist the Finance Manager to oversee the following functions; financial analysis and risk management; consolidation of financial information to support management reporting requirements; strategic development to create efficiencies in the functions of the Finance Unit and the organisation as a whole; maintaining compliance with all statutory, legislative and reporting requirement; and the development of methodologies and frameworks to ensure the Finance team is agile and capable of efficiently dealing with competing priorities.

About You

To be considered for this position, you will have the ability to:

  • Audit of reconciliation of accounts payable/receivable.
  • Maintain the accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Preparation of the Annual Budget(s), end of month reports, period end journal adjustments, quarterly acquittal statements for funding bodies, and specific financial reports for Funding Bodies adhering to provided templates and annual financial statements for the auditor.
  • Prepare and lodge business activity statements (BAS) returns quarterly
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders (banks, auditors and management) in all aspects of financial administration
  • Oversee the work of the Assistant Accountant and Accounts and Payroll Officers to administer employee files and records in order to ensure accurate payment of benefits.
  • To work in a respectful and professional manner, demonstrating discretion and confidentiality
  • Demonstrate the ability to uphold the principles of cultural safety including an ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Ideally, in addition to be above, we are looking for someone who:

  • Identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and is acknowledged as such by their community.
  • Can demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health sector.
  • Has worked in a the Not for Profit industry.

The position involves working within a multicultural organisation where the majority of employees, clients and stakeholders identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. Candidates must have the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with, and be able to demonstrate an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.

In addition to the above skills and experience, the successful candidate be required to submit a National Police Clearance (dated within 3 months) prior to appointment.
