The AHTA is Australia's peak body for hand therapy. It sets practice standards and credentials for qualified occupational therapists and physiotherapists in hand and upper limb rehabilitation.

The purpose of the Council is to support the highest level of clinical competence in hand therapy practice to advance patient outcomes through a formal credentialing process. It aims:

  1. To recognise and award a credential to occupational therapists and physiotherapists assessed at a post-graduate level of advanced professional knowledge, skills, and competence.
  2. To advance and refine the accreditation of practitioners to meet the evolving needs of members, employers, and the industry.
  3. To serve the public and hand therapy community by maintaining high standards in hand therapy practice.

The Council comprises up to nine members, two non-members of the association with expertise in other sectors.

This role requires attendance at six online meetings per year. Meetings are approximately two hours in duration.
