An opportunity exists for a self-driven individual to lead a team of motivated researchers conducting policy-relevant research that enhances understanding of the nature and extent of gambling participation and gambling-related harm in Australia, and advance knowledge of ways to prevent and reduce harm.

The Executive Manager/Senior Research Fellow plays a key role in leading the achievement of the Australian Gambling Research Centre’s (AGRC) purpose. This position provides strategic leadership and oversight of the AGRC’s research and is responsible for driving the communication of AGRC research to relevant stakeholders.

About AIFS

The Australian Institute of Family Studies (AIFS, or ‘the Institute’) is the Australian Government's key research body in the area of family wellbeing, based in the Melbourne CBD. We conduct research, provide independent advice and communicate findings to policy-makers, service providers and the community about factors affecting family wellbeing.

About Our Team

The AGRC’s gambling research is unique in embodying a national perspective and a public health approach within a government context. It works to:

  • conduct policy-relevant research that enhances understanding of the nature and extent of gambling participation and gambling-related harm in Australia, and produce data and statistics about, gambling
  • advance knowledge of ways to prevent and reduce gambling-related harm among people who gamble, their families and communities
  • strengthen gambling research capability and capacity in Australia
  • translate and communicate research findings to inform policy and practice.

The AGRC consists of a dynamic team of researchers with multi-disciplinary expertise across a range of areas including:

  • gambling and related behaviours, including alcohol and other drug use
  • public health
  • economics
  • policy evaluation
  • psychology
  • statistics

Key Duties

As a senior leader within the Institute, the AGRC Executive Manager will model the Institute’s and APS Values and demonstrate leadership and collaboration with other research and corporate areas.

This position is required to:

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of research activities and projects within the AGRC.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the Institute through the AGRC’s work in relation to government priorities and requirements
  • Lead and manage the ongoing implementation and review of the AGRC’s research programs.
  • Lead a team of researchers responsible for delivering AGRC research projects.
  • Work with and consult with key stakeholders to progress the AGRC’s purpose and objectives.
  • Set priorities and monitor workflow and practices to ensure timely completion of work.
  • Represent the AGRC and the Institute in the media and in meetings, conferences and seminars as required.
  • Develop and manage the AGRC’s budget, in line with corporate requirements.
  • Ensure that the AIFS and APS Values, Employment Principles and Code of Conduct are promoted and applied within the workplace.

Terms

The Executive Manager/Senior Research Fellow position may be offered an ongoing role on a full-time basis.

The Executive Level 2 position salary is between $132,105 to $154,872, depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicants, plus 15.4% superannuation.
