POSITION OVERVIEW

The Maintenance and Venue Support Officer is a vital role within the Facilities Team, reporting to the Facilities Manager and supporting the Facilities Coordinator.

The Officer is responsible for scheduled and responsive maintenance, contractor and tradesperson liaison, upkeep of buildings and grounds, upkeep of technical equipment, and, as required, cleaning and gardening. The role also provides essential WHS support to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the centres for residents, venue users and visitors.

The successful applicant will work 25 hours a week, with morning starts, Monday to Friday. The position also includes an after hours phone roster.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facility Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of buildings (internal and external) and grounds, ensuring a high standard of presentation.
  • Technical Maintenance: Inspect and maintain stage equipment, electrical systems and other infrastructure, ensuring safety compliance and identifying potential hazards.
  • Responsive Repairs: Address and report maintenance issues, damages and WHS risks promptly. Undertake basic handyman tasks.
  • Contractor Liaison: Coordinate with contractors to ensure timely and professional completion of work.
  • Venue Setup: Setup and reset venues according to schedules, including post-event pack down, if necessary.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor and maintain inventory of equipment and furniture, reporting any misuse, damage or missing items.
  • Safety Compliance: Develop a solid knowledge of the security system and emergency evacuation procedures. Ensure compliance with all relevant WHS regulations and policies, including maintaining first aid cabinets and boxes.
  • After Hours Phone: Must be willing to join the after hours phone roster, dealing with basic security and user queries. The roster consists of 1 week every 4-5 week period, depending on staff numbers.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Garden Maintenance: Support the Facilities Coordinator in maintaining gardens and monitoring irrigation systems.
  • Supply Management: Monitor, order and restock cleaning supplies (e.g. toilet paper, hand towels, liquid soap, dishwashing detergent, cleaning agents) as needed.
  • Waste Management: Ensure regular emptying of rubbish bins and cleanliness around garbage and recycling areas.
  • Event Cleaning: Assist with cleaning areas post-events or venue hire as required, and liaise with cleaning contractors.

The Maintenance and Venue Support Officer may undertake other duties as may be reasonable assigned by the Facilities Manager.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. Technical Expertise: Proficiency in general building and venue maintenance, with knowledge of electrical and audio equipment, stage lighting and basic handyman skills.
  2. WHS Knowledge: Strong understanding of Work Health and Safety practices.
  3. Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication skills, professional demeanour and the ability to maintain positive relationships with colleagues, residents, venue users and visitors.
  4. Organisational Skills: Well-organised, detail-oriented and capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment.
