About the team

INFANT, CHILD, YOUTH AND HEADSPACE MENTAL HEALTH SERVICE.

Formerly referred to as Alfred CYMHS and headspace, the expanded Department is now be referred to as AMAH Infant, Child and Youth Area Mental Health and Wellbeing Service and headspace.

Services include:

  • ICYAMHWS: Access/HOPE team, Infant and Child Team, Sector teams x 2, Neurodevelopmental Stream – MHIDI-Y and DAMP, Early Intervention Mobile Outreach Support (EIMOS)
  • Youth Forensic Support Service (YFSS)
  • Headspace Primary & Youth Early Psychosis: Centres at Elsternwick, Syndal; CCT and MATT at Bentleigh, Narre Warren & Dandenong, and Frankston

About the role

This position is based at headspace Frankston. Some travel to other locations related to research may be required.

The Researcher Clinician – VISOR is responsible for maintaining close fidelity to a manualised VR therapy intervention, which includes components of existing evidenced-based treatments (e.g., Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) as well as novel components.

The VR Study Clinician will be expected to have the capacity to function autonomously while also working collaboratively with the site research assistant, study clinicians at other sites and the broader research team. The VR study clinician will support the study research assistant as a clinical liaison for recruitment purposes, and will carry a caseload of clients, collect and enter research data in an accurate and timely fashion.

The VR Study Clinician will receive thorough training in the VR therapy intervention from experienced VR therapists, and ongoing support from the study leads at the primary site, as well as support from their local site lead via regular staff meetings and close supervision (both operationally and clinically).

Delivery of this novel and experimental intervention is expected to provide challenges beyond those in regular practice, requiring high levels of initiative, flexibility and clinical skill to provide compassionate, structured, collaborative and safe care to the study sample. The VR Study Clinician will bring their clinical expertise as well as passion for VR mental health initiatives, with the expectation that they will be a champion this and bring a sense of responsibility for the effective implementation of VR treatments within the service.

Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in allied health or health-related discipline and current registration with the eligibility to the relevant registering body or equivalent experience and qualifications.
  • Skill and experience conducting assessment, and evidence-based psychological treatments within the youth mental health system.
  • Proven skill in engaging with young people, collaborative decision-making, problem-solving, with ability to manage clinical safety and risk appropriately and escalate concerns when required.
  • Clinical experience in an autonomous role with demonstrated ability to provide evidence-based therapy and independently maintain a complex case load of young people in treatment.
