ABOUT US

The Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) is the national organisation representing the Australian library and information services sector. Together we seek to empower the sector through the development, promotion and delivery of quality library and information services to the nation, through leadership, advocacy and mutual professional support. Membership of ALIA is open to everyone: people working in the sector, qualified librarians and library technicians, professionals from other disciplines, people who share our values, libraries, library suppliers and other stakeholders.

POSITION PURPOSE

  • The Digital Content Manager works as part of the Communications team under the supervision of the Senior Manager Communications.
  • You will play a key role in building and maintaining ALIA’s brand and reputation, social media presence, and communications with members and external stakeholders.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring a consistent industry voice across ALIA’s communication channels, including the development of key design resources.
  • You will lead content development for member communications including our e-newsletters, website, event and education marketing materials, and social media content.
  • You will have strong writing and editing skills with an ability to craft content for our diverse audience groups.

POSITION PURPOSE

  • Create, schedule, and manage engaging content across ALIA’s social media platforms focused on LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook and X.
  • Curate and publish our fortnightly e-newsletter ALIA News and other EDMs as required.
  • Produce analytical reports for the ALIA Executive and Board to gauge engagement and effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.
  • Implement Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) strategies to enhance website traffic.
  • Promote and raise awareness of ALIA’s sector initiatives
  • Work with the Senior Manager Communications and Website IT Manager to ensure ALIA website content is current and remains in line with brand guidelines and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
  • Develop design resources in accordance with the ALIA Brand.
  • Assist with research, fact-checking, proof reading and editing as required.
  • Other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ATTRIBUTES, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • At least three to five years’ experience in the communications, design, marketing or PR field.
  • Knowledge of major social media platforms (e.g. Meta, Instagram, X, LinkedIn) and their unique features, algorithms, advertising and best practices to optimise content reach and engagement.
  • Proficiency in analysing social media metrics and insights to evaluate campaign performance, understand audience behaviour, and inform future strategies.
  • A good understanding of SEO requirements.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and be accountable for responsibilities relating to the role.

Desirable

  • Experience in or knowledge of the libraries, museums or archives sector.
  • Knowledge of engagement management systems including IMIS and Higher Logic.
  • Undergraduate degree in communications, marketing, design.
