Primary Purpose of the role

This role provides high-quality referral and information services for ALS clients, collaborating with solicitors to deliver holistic legal services. It involves informing solicitors about community 'practice issues', attending community meetings, and representing ALS on relevant working parties as needed.

About the role

The Filed Officer is part of the Care and Protection supporting Family Law Practice.

The Field Officer will be responsible for below but not limited to:

  • Provide culturally appropriate support and referral services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients
  • Engage with local communities to deliver information and legal education, utilising various technologies
  • Manage cases, maintain client files, and submit timely reports
  • Collaborate with solicitors and staff, supporting legal processes and client needs
  • Stay updated on legal developments and ALS policies, enhancing professional competence
  • Utilise and adapt to new systems and technologies impacting legal practice
  • Travel independently to regional and interstate locations (current driver's license required).

About you

We’re looking for someone who brings:

  • Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • Strong understanding of cultural needs and social justice issues affecting Indigenous communities
  • Knowledge of support and referral services for Indigenous clients in the legal system
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, self-motivation, and ability to work autonomously and in teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to produce high-quality reports
  • Willingness to travel to regional, metropolitan, and interstate locations

Desirable: Experience in Indigenous community-based organisations and legal practice (1 year).
