Great Barrier Reef Water Quality Manager - Flexible Location

Australian Marine Conservation Society
  • Flexible Location within QLD

The Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS) is the voice for Australia’s oceans. We are Australia’s peak ocean conservation organisation and one of the founding members of Australia’s conservation movement. We are a community of ocean lovers across the nation working to protect our precious marine wildlife and for healthy seas. We are an independent charity, staffed by a committed group of scientists, educators and passionate advocates who have defended Australia’s oceans since 1965.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Great Barrier Reef is under increasing pressure from climate change, poor water quality and unsustainable commercial fishing. After climate change, water pollution from agricultural runoff is the most serious threat to the future of the Reef. The Reef’s capacity to endure and recover from the impacts of climate change will be enhanced by reducing water pollutant loads such as sediment, nutrients and pesticides.

As the Great Barrier Reef Water Quality Manager, you will lead the development and implementation of our campaign and programs to protect the Reef, and improve its resilience in the face of climate change, by improving water quality, conserving and restoring coastal and marine ecosystems and sequestering carbon. You will work closely with the AMCS Great Barrier Reef and Fisheries teams, partner organisations, stakeholders and government to deliver environmental and sustainability improvements with an emphasis on key sub-catchments in the Reef.

For more information on AMCS’ Water Quality and Water Pollution campaign see here.
