AMSANT (Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance Northern Territory) is the peak body for Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services in the Northern Territory and advocates for equity in health, focusing on supporting the provision of high quality comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal communities.

This position will contribute to the initiatives AMSANT is undertaking to achieve its strategic plan, including supporting our Aboriginal community controlled health service members improve the lives and outcomes for Aboriginal people in the NT. The position will support the Policy and Research Manager, including in relation to providing support and advice for meetings of the Board, Research Subcommittee and Members.

The position requires some travel, including to remote communities and will require some out-of-hours’ work.

To be successful in this role you will have:

ESSENTIAL

  1. Tertiary qualifications in social science, health sciences, public health, or relevant area.
  2. An understanding of social policy and government processes, government departments and authorities, and policy frameworks as they relate to Aboriginal people.
  3. Awareness of the broader determinants of health and wellbeing that effect Aboriginal people at a population level.
  4. The capability to develop high-quality policy documents using research evidence and data, for a broad range of audiences.
  5. Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively with management and staff across the organisation, external partners and stakeholders, and with Aboriginal people in particular.
  6. Willingness, ability and appropriate levels of health and fitness to travel to and work from remote locations.

DESIRABLE

  1. Postgraduate qualifications in a related field.
  2. Experience working in an Aboriginal controlled organisation.
  3. Understanding and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures and histories.
  4. Current Driver’s licence.
