  • Salary: Grade 5 - $76,185.20 per annum (full-time) Superannuation: 1% above SGC

A vacancy exists with the National Union of the AMWU in either our Melbourne or Granville offices. The position is either full-time or part-time, negotiable for the right candidate.

The position provides high-level secretarial and administrative support to the Union’s leadership, including senior officers.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing secretarial and administrative support to the National officers and officials of the Union as required.
  • Diary management for the National President and Assistant National Secretaries.
  • Back-up support to the Executive Assistant to the National Secretary and other senior officers
    of the Union as required.
  • Booking interstate and international travel and accommodation.
  • Monitoring, drafting and responding to correspondence and emails and file management of same.
  • Managing and engaging with external and internal stakeholders, including AMWU branch officers and officials, AMWU members, other unions and peak bodies, employer representatives, Fair Work Commission, AEC, and other relevant government bodies and authorities.
  • Co-ordinating internal and external virtual and in-person meetings, court dates and listings, including organising attendees, coordinating venue and facilities, agenda preparation, formatting presentations, organising catering and distribution of documents.
  • Co-ordinating interstate political and industrial campaign delegations including liaising with AMWU Branches and delegates, preparation of correspondence and material and the co- ordination of appointments.
  • Co-ordinating representation at international meetings including liaising with the AMWU’s International Committee and international organisations, participant registration and follow-up post the event.
  • Preparation, maintenance, and control of file management systems for legal, national bargain or other industrial matters.
  • Any other duties as required to support the effective functioning of the National Union.

SELECTION CRITERIA (ABILITIES, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE)

  • Previous experience in a similar role.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain good internal working relationships with employees and provide support when needed.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite
  • Outstanding analytical and time management skills, including the ability to prioritise deadlines and proactively identify issues to be rectified.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • High level of discretion in handling confidential and sensitive material.
  • Experience within a Union not-for-profit or a commitment to the trade union movement.
  • Experience working within a small team.
