The Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union (AMWU) is a progressive trade Union dedicated to advancing the rights and wellbeing of manufacturing workers and our communities. We represent workers in the metals trades, printing, paper industry, vehicle industry, food and confectionery industry as well as technical trades and professions.

About the Role
Working in a small team, you must be prepared to deliver and assist with all of the operational tasks and functions associated with internal and external communication in the Union whilst juggling multiple projects and work with a range of stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend and document worksites, worker actions and union and political events
- Stay abreast of policy or industrial issues to be able to communicate them in a timely manner
- Create digital content and strategies to support industrial and political campaigns
- Prepare and update compelling marketing collateral that will support strategic actions and be welcomed by current and potential new members
- Develop EDMs and SMS campaigns to support member engagement
- Draft written material for a variety of audiences (e.g. workers, elected representatives, community members) across multiple mediums
- Develop materials for our social media accounts and execute strategies to engage and grow our communities
- Assist with production of union publications and promotional work
- Provide effective and engaging communications to support campaigns across the National Union
Selection Criteria
Essential
- A commitment to the values of the Australian trade labour movement
- Tertiary qualifications or relevant experience in marketing, communications or related disciplines
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing marketing and communications strategies to deliver on objectives, including using data-driven approaches to marketing
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into engaging content for different audiences
- Demonstrated experience in graphic design and content creation and/or a willingness to develop these skills quickly
- Demonstrated organisational and time management skills, including the ability to meet deadlines and prioritise workflow in a busy environment.
- Ability to communicate confidentially and respectfully with union members, union employees, Officers, Officials and relevant external parties.
- Demonstrated experience with and understanding of the digital and social media environments
- Experience in using mass-mailing systems/integrated marketing systems
- Driver’s licence
Desirable
- Experience working on organising campaigns and an understanding of how to use communication strategies and tools to achieve campaign goals
- Experience shooting and editing video content using Adobe Premiere Pro or equivalent
- Experience using the Adobe suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) to create digital and print content
- Experience in managing social media accounts and using them for campaign and/or community building
- Experience working with platforms such as Nationbuilder, iMIS, Yabbr, Higher Logic, Survey Monkey, MailChimp and other CMS
- A sound understanding of Australia’s industrial and political environment
- Knowledge of the Australian federal political system
