About the Role
This is a unique opportunity to lead a talented team of legal, research, and policy specialists who are dedicated to advancing workers’ rights and improving conditions for AMWU members across Australia. As National Coordinator, you’ll drive collaboration between different specialist areas to deliver high-impact outcomes for our members.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a diverse, geographically dispersed team of legal officers, researchers, and policy analysts
- Drive the implementation of integrated strategies across legal, research, and policy functions
- Provide high-level strategic advice to the national leadership team
- Coordinate responses to complex industrial and political challenges
- Foster relationships with key stakeholders including other unions, peak bodies, and government representatives
- Oversee submissions to government inquiries and development of union policy positions
Selection Criteria
Essential
- Tertiary qualifications in law, economics, public policy or related disciplines
- Demonstrated leadership experience in leading and supporting a multi-disciplinary professional legal and policy team in a dynamic and time-sensitive environment, of a union, member-based or like organisation
- Strong understanding of industrial relations and employment law frameworks and their strategic implications
- Proven ability to translate complex legislative and regulatory requirements into strategic organisational responses
- Strong conceptual, research, policy and analytical skills with a demonstrated ability to synthesise large volumes of information from a range of sources and disciplines to produce clear briefs, advice and reports
- Excellent stakeholder management and relationship building skills in a complex political environment with an understating of organising principles
- Outstanding communication and presentation abilities
- Demonstrated commitment to union values and principles
Desirable
- Understanding of industrial relations and employment law
- Experience in a union or member-based organisation
- Postgraduate qualifications in management, law, or related field
- Experience in leading research or policy functions
