Role Overview

  • Permanent part time role of approx. 50hrs+ per fortnight with leave accrual and salary packaging benefits.
  • Work a regular ongoing roster in a supported accommodation service. The roster will contain shift work as the house runs 24/7 Applicants need to be available for a variety of shifts.
  • Flexible working agreements with above award hourly rate. ($40.50 (base) + Shift penalties + Salary Packaging).

About the service

The residential home is a co-operative run for three lovely young men with intellectual disabilities, including autism and accompanying medical conditions.

Located in Kensington on the eastern suburbs. The house offers a supportive and rewarding work environment. We are looking for committed people, keen to make a difference in the lives of their clients, by offering genuine person-centred care and active support in their day to day lives and routines.

Our residents are all unique loveable individuals on the autism spectrum, requiring energetic, good humoured and motivated support staff. Staff at the facility are valued and the team that work in the house are enthusiastic, cohesive, and well managed.

Support workers will be responsible for:

  • Helping to create a home where everyone is safe, valued and as healthy as possible.
  • Supporting residents with all aspects of their daily lives including carrying out personal care duties.
  • General household maintenance and domestic cleaning.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Implementing therapist and medical recommendations as required.
  • Communicating effectively with clients, fellow team members, families and other stakeholders.
  • Participating in team meetings and contribute to a collaborative and supportive culture.
  • Maintaining safe work practices to ensure client safety and wellbeing.
  • Following all policies and NDIS guidelines.
  • Ensuring individualised, person-centred active support is provided to each resident.
  • Effectively implement positive behaviour support plans for challenging behaviours and employ emotional regulation techniques.

Skill building and community involvement

  • As a team, provide a consistent approach to goals and skill building.
  • Engage residents in household tasks and opportunities for growth.
  • Implement skill-building strategies as directed by therapists, doctors or management.
  • Facilitate and plan regular outings in the local community.
  • Assist with appointments, e.g. doctors, dentists, etc.

Workplace training and professional development

  • Complete ongoing professional development training.
  • Inform management of training needs as required.
  • Keep up to date all essential qualifications as required to maintain employment in the sector.

Skills/Attributes

  • Display a creative and energetic approach to supporting clients.
  • Show initiative in completing tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Have a strong interest in client wellbeing, health and safety.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and individually.

Essential criteria and qualifications

  • Covid-19 vaccination certificate which includes 3rd booster shot.
  • Valid unrestricted drivers license.
  • Valid NDIS worker screening check.
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module Training Certificate.
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificate, which includes the course HLTAID003 or HLTAID011.
  • Willingness to do shift work, including mornings, afternoons, active nights, weekend and public holiday shifts.
  • Willingness to be flexible during holiday periods and in the event of a resident requiring medical treatment during a normal rostered shift.
  • It is highly desirable that you have relevant qualifications and/or 2 years minimum experience working in the disability sector.
