About Lhere Artepe Aboriginal Corporation

Lhere Artepe Aboriginal Corporation (Lhere Artepe) was established in 2002 after the Federal Court recognised the presence of Native Title within the Municipality of Alice Springs and is the Registered Native Title Prescribed Body Corporate representing the Native Title holders of Alice Springs.

Lhere Artepe is an Aboriginal owned not-for-profit organisation established under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (CATSI Act).

Lhere Artepe provides assistance to member families in the form of health, education, ceremony, and funeral costs, in addition to providing employment assistance. Through the ownership of three IGA stores in Alice Springs, Lhere Artepe provides employment opportunities to Indigenous people, as well as utilising profits to assist families and the community, and delivers community service programs such as the Community Patrol Program. Lhere Artepe also provides Welcome to Country services for corporate and community events, in addition to offering cross-cultural training to other organisations.

About the Opportunity

As the Chief Executive Officer, you will be responsible to the Board of Directors for the overall strategic development and operational management of Lhere Artepe to ensure the achievement of organisational goals.

You will proactively provide strong, collaborative, strategic and accountable leadership and uphold the values of Lhere Artepe, to the organisation, its people, members and stakeholders, within the scope of the position and associated delegations.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Financial and resource management
  • Human resources and people management
  • Delivery of Lhere Artepe’s strategic direction
  • Quality service delivery and continuous improvement
  • Compliance and reporting
  • Advocacy and influence
  • Leadership and governance

Essential skills and experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications i.e. management, business and/or social sciences and a minimum five years senior management experience across a broad range of functions
  • Demonstrated achievement in leadership, delivering successful operational results in the face of significant challenges and innovation, including the implementation of change management and program improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander self‑determination and cultural safety.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing tenders, establishing services and exceeding program and operational expectations.
  • Strong analytical and research skills and a demonstrated ability to deal constructively with complex and sometimes conflicting situations.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including strong negotiation skills to represent Lhere Artepe at internal/external meetings.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and interpersonal skills at an executive management level.
  • Strong business and financial expertise and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing strategic / business plans, including meeting Key Performance Indicators.
  • Experience working with Commonwealth and State / Territory Governments particularly with regard to grants/tendering, contract formation and management and acquittals.
  • Significant experience in people management, including the ability to lead and develop high performing teams.
  • Substantial experience in quality improvement processes and risk management.
  • Extensive experience in the timely preparation and presentation of reports and submissions at executive management and Board level.
