About headspace

headspace are a busy and innovative youth mental health service providing a variety of mental health, medical, sexual and other health related services as well as vocational, functional groups and social services to young people aged 12 to 25 years and their families.

About the Opportunity

As the Peer Support Worker, you will skillfully and purposefully utilise your lived experience of mental health difficulties, recovery and accessing mental health services, to provide support to young people and families in collaboration with their treating team.

You will help develop and co-facilitate peer support groups and participate in community engagement events to provide education opportunities to the community, reduce stigma regarding mental ill-health and be a role model to young people. You will also attend meetings that allow you to advocate for young people and families accessing headspace Katherine.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Lived experience of accessing support for mental health difficulties as a young person. (If this support was accessed at headspace Katherine, you will have completed your support at least 3 months prior to applying)
  • Cert IV in Mental Health or relevant qualification, or a willingness to study a Certificate IV in Mental Health or relevant field or a similar qualification.
  • Demonstrated ability to actively engage, support and work collaboratively with young people and an understanding of the mental health system in the Northern Territory
  • Ability to work respectfully and collaboratively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, their families, communities, staff, and Aboriginal controlled organisations.
