The Health, Education, Research Centre (HERC) is the initiative of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF) Tasmanian Branch. Our purpose-built education space provides accessible, high-quality training for health professionals, and for those who are wanting to start a career in the health industry.

Position Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant team growing the upcoming generation of Enrolled Nurses. At HERC we love role play and simulated learning which creates a fun learning and teaching environment.

The Educator is a Registered Nurse who will be accountable for the delivery and assessment of education/training programs delivered by HERC. The Educator will also be responsible for contribution to, and compliance with, relevant standards, policies and procedures that relate to nationally recognised training. The Educator role is a 0.5 FTE position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to, and undertake the development, delivery and assessment of training programs, lesson plans and other training sessions for courses offered by HERC
  • Have an understanding of and capacity to use relevant technologies to assist in the delivery of education and training
  • Conduct workplace training and assessment of students at various sites for clinical placements
  • Maintaining currency in the training and assessment competencies gained in the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
  • Mentoring and supporting students

Assessment: The Educator will assist in the development of appropriate assessment tools and processes for training sessions, in accordance with the requirements of the relevant Training Package and within the standards, policies and procedures established for use within HERC. This work will involve:

  • The use of approved assessment instruments in all subject areas taught
  • Contributing feed back in relation to assessment instruments used in terms of their robustness and effectiveness and/or the need for review and adjustment

Quality improvement: The Educator will contribute to the quality improvement/ assurance processes and RTO Standards for VET. This will be achieved through:

  • Contributing to measures and processes that support HERC compliance with policies and procedures and participating in regular validation of course material
  • Contributing to quality assessments against the applicable standards
  • Utilising policies and procedures that ensure that the quality improvement cycle is systematically applied throughout HERC
  • Familiarising self and new staff with quality requirements and actively contribute to quality assurance and improvement activities

Relationships: The Educator contributes to the establishment and maintenance of effective relationships with:

  • Industry partners including group training and other sources of student referrals and placements
  • Quality and other regulators
  • Other nursing/midwifery organisations and the higher/VET education sectors

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Be a Registered Nurse with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA)
  • Hold, or be working toward a current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or higher qualification
  • Holds a Bachelor of Nursing Degree or equivalent; or be enrolled in such a program
  • Have experience in an area of practice relevant to training provided by HERC
  • Have a capacity to work in an autonomous and self-directed manner within a small team
  • Have well developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Have an understanding of, and capacity to use and develop the use of, relevant technology to assist in the delivery of education and training
  • Have the ability to provide guidance and support to students
  • Have sound problem solving, time management and negotiation/advocacy skills
  • Have a commitment to their own ongoing professional development
  • Have current or prepared to obtain “Working with Vulnerable People” registration
  • Hold a current driver’s license and current “National Police Check”
