The role

The APTC Skills for Sub-National Growth Investment (SNGI) builds the capacity and quality of training of three regional Higher Education Institutions to increase graduates in industry-relevant trades and skills in priority economic sectors.

The Senior Skills Manager’s key responsibility is implementing SNGI activities to develop national TVET capability to deliver competency-based skills programs that meet of the needs of labour market as well as nationally accredited PNG qualifications.

The Senior Skills Manager will collaborate with colleagues and partner institutions to facilitate and supervise the implementation of capability development initiatives, agreed projects and curriculum development while ensuring training and delivery requirements comply with the relevant Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) for the delivery of APTC Australian Qualifications and the National TVET Regulations as required for the delivery of PNG qualifications.

In addition, the Senior Skills Manager will support APTC’s Gender Equity, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) initiatives to ensure GEDSI is integrated into operations at the campus level.

APTC is implemented by TAFE Queensland (RTO 0275) on behalf of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). This position is classified under the Adviser Remuneration Framework as B2, and is located in Mt Hagen.

As our ideal candidate, you must have:

  1. Demonstrated skills with proven ability to manage others; providing leadership, direction and mentoring and/or coaching others, to facilitate capability development and support change in a culturally sensitive manner.
  2. Minimum 5 years extensive experience in PNG or an Australian TVET organisation including management and coordination of teaching teams, with combined training, assessment and industry currency.
  3. Highly developed understanding of a range of training packages and industry requirements or experience in an educational setting.
