AQA is a member-based not-for-profit organisation serving the community for 35+ years. We resource people whose lives have been disrupted by injuries, illnesses, and other events, to find their way to participate in and enjoy all aspects of life.

Established in 1987 by a group of people with quadriplegia who saw an urgent need to improve access to information, support and employment opportunities for people who had sustained a spinal cord injury (SCI).

The Opportunity

As part of our ongoing brand evolution and organisational transformation, AQA is committed to intentionally connecting with various spaces, organisations, and individuals. Part of this commitment involves working closely with our team to cultivate, enhance, and maintain Community Networks at both local and regional levels. By maintaining and expanding these networks, AQA continues to build upon our foundation of support, collaboration, and sustainable mutual growth within the communities we serve.

This position plays a crucial role in building and maintaining strong, vibrant, and supportive community networks within AQA, driving the organisation’s mission to empower and support individuals through meaningful connections and services.

The incumbent will actively involved in:

  • Leveraging lived experience of disability to support, guide and nurture our community networks and their members.
  • Identify, develop, and nurture community networks to foster a sense of belonging and support.
  • Create bespoke and individualised service and activity offerings tailored to the unique needs of different community networks.
  • Coordinate the planning and execution of community events, ensuring they align with AQA’s mission and values.
  • Gain a holistic understanding of AQA services and activities to effectively coordinate events that resonate with community needs.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with community members, encouraging active participation and engagement in network activities.
  • Collaborate with like-minded organisations to strengthen community resources and support mechanisms.

In addition to a genuine passion for Community, we’re looking for someone who are:

  • Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of community services and activities based on feedback and community needs.
  • Develop strategies to enhance communication with community members, ensuring they are informed and engaged with AQA’s offerings.
  • Guide community members to appropriate AQA services when relevant, ensuring they receive the support and resources they need.
  • Provide engaging and relevant content for AQA’s NewsLink and social media highlighting community stories, successes, and upcoming events.
  • Work proactively towards making the community networks sustainable, exploring funding opportunities, partnerships, and member-led initiatives.
  • Demonstrated skills in establishing and maintaining effective professional relationships with internal & external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with confidential and sensitive matters of a complex nature
  • Demonstrated experience in working with people at all levels and across multiple sites
  • Commitment to building capacity in self and others within the wider organisation
  • Creative, innovative and continually striving for service excellence
