The Australian Refugee Association Inc. (ARA) is a community-based organisation providing settlement, migration, and other forms of assistance to refugees, migrants and other people of concern.

As a member of our team, you will be supporting new arrivals in South Australia to achieve their social, economic, cultural and community participation goals. You will be making a difference in the lives of individuals and families as they re-establish themselves in a new home.

ARA is seeking a qualified and experienced practitioner who is able to provide practice supervision to a team of Family Safety and Settlement Service Case Managers.

The Practice Supervisor is a newly created role to provide professional practice oversight, mentoring, and support to the organisation's team of case workers and case management professionals. This position involves a range of responsibilities aimed at ensuring the provision of safe, and high-quality settlement, health, wellbeing and family safety services to refugees and recently arrived migrants. The main tasks for this role include:

  • Providing professional practice supervision to case workers and case managers, including regular individual and group supervision sessions.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the quality of individual case work services provided to clients, ensuring adherence to best practices and ethical guidelines, and overcoming barriers to effective case management.
  • Developing and implementing case work policies and procedures to maintain high standards of care within the organization.
  • Supporting staff in managing complex cases, including trauma-related issues and cultural considerations specific to refugee and migrant populations.
  • Liaise with content experts to ensure that professional practice is being delivered reflects best practice.
  • Work collaboratively with Team Leaders to assist in the development and implementation of performance improvement plans and engagement with managing unsatisfactory practice.
  • Collaborating with other departments within the organisation to integrate FDV, health, and wellbeing services into a holistic support program for clients.
  • Participating in staff training and professional development activities to enhance the professional practice skills and knowledge of the team.

The Practice Supervisor will play a crucial role in promoting a culture of continuous improvement within the organisation's case managed services, contributing to positive outcomes for refugees and recently arrived migrants.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Psychology, Counselling, or Social Work (or similar).
  • Formal qualifications or training in Supervision would be an advantage.

Required skills

  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and practice supervision skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Sound knowledge of person centred, strength based, culturally responsive and trauma informed practice.
  • Proficiency in conflict resolution and problem-solving.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.

Required experience

  • Prior experience in delivering supervision to FDV practitioners and/or supervising counsellors, case managers, social workers or similar human service or health workers.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in the provision of social work, case management, settlement services, or similar roles that require professional practice supervision.
  • Experience in conducting group training in professional practice is an advantage.

Special Conditions

  • Must have evidence of Australian residency or right to work in Australia.
  • Must have a current and valid Working With Children Check that shows you are able to work with children in South Australia.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain a Child Safe Environment training certificate.
  • Must be willing to participate in training and development opportunities as part of continued professional development.
  • Must hold a current driver's licence.
  • Must own a roadworthy vehicle that is registered and has minimum third party property insurance and be able to use this for work purposes.
  • Must be willing to work in various locations within the metropolitan area.
  • Must be willing to participate in occasional after hours work.

The successful candidate will receive ongoing support from a diverse team and access to ongoing professional development opportunities and will form part of ARA’s growing Client Services Team.

Initially this is a part time role (3 days per week) offered on a fixed term to June 2025, with the intent to grow the role as our business grows.

The role is classified as Level 5 under the SCHADS Industry Award. ARA is a Public Benevolent Institution and able to offer salary packaging benefits.
