POSITION CONTEXT:

Addison Road Community Organisation (ARCO) is a not-for-profit organisation providing programs in the areas of Social Justice, Arts/Culture, Environmental Sustainability and Community Development.

Our vision is a just, sustainable, creative, and diverse community. Our purpose is to help create lasting alternatives for social, economic, and environmental justice. ARCO is managed by an elected Board of Directors. Our Food Justice Program rescues 40 tonne of food from landfill per month and feeds 8,500 people per week across 2 low-cost pantries, hampers for community groups and meals prepared in our community kitchen.

PURPOSE AND FUNCTION:

The Kitchen Coordinator is responsible for planning and supervising a team of volunteers to prepare nutritious, culturally appropriate ready to eat (RTE) meals that are distributed free to our Food Pantry customers. This role reports to the Food Operations Program Manager and works closely with other ARCO team members, including the Programs Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all kitchen operations ensuring healthy and safe work practices.
  • Menu planning with focus on food rescue ingredients.
  • Supervise team of volunteers in preparing, cooking, and plating up meals.
  • Cooking for community events.
  • Some demonstration cooking for community engagement and education.
  • Ordering food items required to produce meals.
  • Labelling and packaging meals for distribution.
  • Plan and prepare for up to 250 RTE meals per week
  • Performance of other duties as required.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (FSS).
  • Cert 3 Commercial Cookery or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Menu planning and costings.
  • Experience in bulk cooking and supervising volunteer team.
  • Working With Children’s Check.
  • Flexibility to work some evenings.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:

  • Experience or knowledge working with Not-For-Profits.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Full drivers’ license.
  • First Aid certificate.
