Families & Healing Project Lead - Darwin / Nhulunbuy

Aboriginal Resource & Development Services

ABOUT ARDS

ARDS Aboriginal Corporation is a Yolŋu organisation specialising in cross-cultural communication, community development and creative media. ARDS has been working in East Arnhem Land for nearly 50 years, putting Indigenous languages, perspectives, skills and decision-making at the centre of its work.

ARDS aims to ‘bridge the gap’ between mainstream services and information, and the information and service delivery approaches that Indigenous communities want and need.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Families & Healing Manager, the Families & Healing Project Lead will lead projects focussed on applying Yolŋu approaches to strength and healing. The projects support strong Yolŋu families, children and parenting, and community leaders seeking to transition to community control of child protection services. This role will work together with members of the ARDS Families & Healing Team to co-design, develop and implement healing approaches and trauma-informed practice models from a Yolŋu worldview.

The role will involve travelling to Yolŋu communities, developing relationships with both Yolŋu and non- Yolŋu stakeholders. It will include ongoing development of Yolŋu Matha language skills and ongoing professional development relating to contemporary community development approaches and mental health social work.

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role you will have experience in:

  • Providing support and services to individuals and groups with diverse backgrounds and needs, including but not limited to, trauma, mental health issues, substance use disorders, and relationship problems.
  • Leadership of teams and providing regular supervision to other staff.
  • Providing trauma-informed and violence-informed services for people with complex needs, and strong self-reflexivity.
  • Speaking in a nuanced way about complex and difficult topics in multilingual environments with diverse clients, stakeholders, and staff.
  • Record keeping, Client Management Systems (CMS), project management and other reporting processes.

Ideally you will have working knowledge of a Yolŋu Matha language and hold a 4 year tertiary qualification in psychology, counselling, or social work and professional registration or membership with AHPRA, ACWA or AASW.
