ARDS Overview

ARDS Aboriginal Corporation is a Yolŋu organisation specialising in cross-cultural communication, community development and creative media. ARDS has been working in East Arnhem Land for nearly 50 years, putting Indigenous languages, perspectives, skills and decision-making at the centre of its work. ARDS aims to ‘bridge the gap’ between mainstream services and information, and the information and service delivery approaches that Indigenous communities want and need.

Position Responsibilities

  • Process weekly & fortnightly pay runs for approximately 80 to 120 staff (seasonal fluctuations in staff numbers), meeting tight deadlines. This will include being responsible for end to end payroll process including:
    • Entering accurate timesheet data
    • Entering leave requests accurately & ensuring leave adjustments are processed correctly
    • Processing deductions & salary packaging
    • Preparation of payslips
    • Processing payment of pay run
  • Accurately processing adds/moves/changes of employee data as directed when new employees commence, role changes occur, or terminations occur.
  • Timely processing of pay run payments and salary packaging in accordance with required deadlines including:
    • Providing draft pay run reports to approvers in timely manner for approval
    • Uploading of approved payment run batches & salary packaging payments to the bank
    • Co-ordinating stakeholders to ensure payments are authorised and processed in accordance with ARDS payment deadlines.
  • Reconcile salary packaging accounts and liaise with the external provider
  • Preparation and payment of superannuation amounts on monthly basis
  • Interpretation and application of SCHADS award and relevant legislation to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Applying a customer service approach to responding to payroll queries from staff and managers
  • Assist corporate services team in implementation of payroll and HR system improvements
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of processes linked to payroll policies and procedures
  • Assisting with maintenance of employee records to ensure compliance and licensing requirements with National Criminal History Police Checks, Working with Children Clearances, Drivers Licenses and travel permits
  • Two days a week, availability to work on Monday and Tuesday

Candidate Requirements

  • Previous experience in payroll processing, or holding business administration/HR qualification
  • Consistent high level of attention to detail
  • Problem solving with the ability to work through issues with some complexity
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate across all levels of the organisation and with people for whom English is not a first language
  • Flexibility in managing changing priorities and the ability to work in pressured situations
  • High level of discretion and sound judgment, with confidential and sensitive information
  • All non-Indigenous ARDS staff must demonstrate cultural competence and an ability to build relationships with Yolŋu
  • Experience using Xero Payroll Module preferred, but not required
  • Strong working knowledge of payroll procedures and processes, award interpretation, taxation, superannuation and salary packaging arrangements preferred, but not required
