The volunteer Officer will provide a consistent approach to recruiting, training and managing volunteers and to boost Access Sydney’s volunteer workforce.

Working in collaboration with other Access Sydney staff, the Volunteer Officer will facilitate the recruitment and training of volunteers in Access Sydney’s cultural group outings program and social support programs. The role will also lead volunteer activities and events (including National Volunteer Week) and provide ongoing feedback from volunteers that enables Access Sydney to retain ongoing volunteer support.

Reporting to the Business and Community Development Manager some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and establishing new volunteer programs and systems for volunteer management as needed by ASCT across all programs.
  • Facilitate Access Sydney’s Volunteer Group Leaders with coordinating cultural group outings
  • Increase the number of new volunteers to expand Access Sydney’s volunteer base.
  • Recruiting volunteers for suitable roles within Access Sydney
  • Ensuring that volunteers have undertaken all mandatory training relevant to the role
  • Coordinating volunteers working in the field and in administration roles
  • Provide support for volunteers, maintain ongoing communication to support them in their roles through Volunteer Newsletter Updates, regular meetings and phones calls.
  • Supervise Access Sydney’s volunteers as required (in conjunction with field and office staff
  • Coordinate induction for new volunteers

Volunteer Management:

  • Review current volunteer recruitment, induction, training, placement and support systems. Develop or establish systems as needed (e.g. policies, procedures, processes, documentation etc.)

To be considered for the role you will be required to possess the following skills and experience:

  • Certificate III in Aged Care or Certificate IV in Community Services
  • Experience in working in volunteer recruitment and or Volunteer Management
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in dealing with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, older people, people with a disability and people with mental health issues
  • Ability to work autonomously with time management skills
  • Well-developed oral, written and interpersonal communications skills
  • Ability to problem solve, prioritise and manage time effectively
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office 365 and knowledge of CRM systems

Desirable:

  • Certificate IV in Volunteer Management
  • Experience and/or understanding of the issues relating to the travel needs of people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, older people, people with a disability and people with mental health issues
  • Demonstrated experience contributing positively to a team environment
  • Ability to speak Mandarin/Cantonese is highly desirable
  • Current drivers’ licence

Other Requirements:

  • Successful applicants will be required to undertake National Criminal Records Check
  • Please note under the Public Health Order 2021 all staff are required to be fully vaccinated with a booster shot with an approved COVID-19 vaccine or provide evidence of an exemption.
