The Australian Services Union (ASU) is one of the largest unions in Australia and represents workers in local government, disability, community services, finance, call centres, airlines, legal and private sector administration.

We are looking for an experienced Organiser. This full time position is based in Darwin but requires regular travel to Katherine, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs.

Selection criteria

  • Experience working for a union or equivalent organising role in another campaigning organisation
  • Knowledge of the Australian industrial scene and enterprise bargaining
  • Ability to identify and resolve issues / disputes that contain organising opportunities or the potential for collective action in the workplace to grow union members’ power.
  • Understanding of how to build the principles of recruitment into all aspects of your work.
  • Ability to identify potential workplace activists and delegates, and the skills to support them to grow a strong and democratic union in their workplace.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to think and act independently while also working well within a collegiate team environment.
  • Ability to work in accordance with planned strategies.
  • Ability to work to deadlines.
  • Good computer skills + digital organising experience.
  • Readiness to participate in the union’s political and social justice agenda.
  • Current NT Drivers' licence or equivalent.

Conditions

  • Full time, 35 hours a week
  • Based in Darwin, Northern Territory
  • Competitive Salary
  • Up to 16% employer Superannuation contribution (with salary sacrifice contribution)
  • Fully maintained vehicle (with personal contribution)
  • Regular travel throughout the Territory and occasional travel Adelaide, South Australia
  • Some out of hours work required for which 12 RDOs per year are provided in compensation
  • 4 weeks annual leave per year
  • 17.5% leave loading
  • 3 Grace days over Christmas / New Years
