About the role

Reporting to the Branch Secretary, the Director – Finance, Risk and Compliance is an active member of the leadership team, providing strategic financial leadership, direction and development for the organisation’s financial wellbeing and governance.

The role will balance financial performance and sustainability of the organisation with rigorous risk and compliance to support and to ensure that the branch is managed in accordance with the Union rules and the Fair Work (Registered Organisations) Act 2009. Implementing continuous improvement techniques, your pursuit of best practices and simplification enables improved financial management and efficient use of resources.

The role has 5 key areas of focus: Strategic Financial Leadership, Compliance and risk, Financial Analysis, Operations and Reporting, Capital Management and Investment Strategies and Leadership and Team Management.

This role offers a full-time base salary range of $120,563 - $130,040 p.a., and the offer made will be commensurate with experience. This is an ongoing full-time position based in Melbourne CBD, with flexible work options available.

About you

We are searching for an executive level leader who is motivated to make a difference by implementing best practice financial management and confident leading through a changing environment.

To be successful in this role, you will bring;

  • Professional CPA/CA qualified accountant.
  • A track record of strategically partnering at the Executive and Board level.
  • Senior-level financial management experience including taxation, compliance, asset management, insurance, reporting and legal issues in an organisation with significant income, diverse operations and reporting requirements.
  • A proven record of achievement in developing budgets and analysing trends to Boards or Committees.
  • Ability to partner with teams to support the development of their financial acumen and achievement of their business goals.
  • Track record of leading the organisational budget and reforecast processes including alignment to the organisational strategic plan.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement robust financial and risk management processes.
  • Demonstrated experience developing fit-for-purpose compliance frameworks and preference for government compliance reporting.
  • Experience driving projects and process and system improvements.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively liaise with external and internal stakeholders at all levels, including verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Previous experience in a membership organisation would be viewed favourably.
