This Case Worker role provides short to medium term complex case coordination that is culturally-sensitive, trauma-informed and strengths based.
You will use a person centred approach to work with people seeking asylum and support them to identify goals, manage risks and address issues that may be an obstacle to their self-development and independence. As part of a multifaceted Services and Engagement team, You will provide case management to support people with complex needs and situations. These can include issues of homelessness, mental illness, family disruption, DFSV and AOD concerns.
This role is part time (4 days per week) and will be based in Newtown with some limited work at Auburn.
Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate a Pathway Plan which holistically transitions a person/family to stable circumstances
- Conduct assessments and reviews of people requesting financial assistance from ASC
- Develop and execute a Pathway Plan that seeks opportunities for people to transition to stable, safe and affordable accommodation
- Contribute to advocate and provide innovative solutions to improve housing outcomes for people and prevent homelessness
- Conduct comprehensive and culturally sensitive assessment of needs
- Develop and implement practices that are trauma-informed and within a strength-based model of care.
- Coordinate case planning meetings with ASC’s multidisciplinary services and external agencies as required
- Identify and develop meaningful external networks and referral pathways for people
- Actively seek to identify trends, patterns and prominent issues impacting people seeking asylum
- Work in collaboration with other ASC programs to complete internal and external reporting requirements, towards achieving client outcomes and systemic advocacy.
Selection Criteria
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:
Essential:
- Tertiary qualifications in human services, social work, mental health or other relevant discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct complex client needs assessments and prioritise client empowerment in a dynamic work environment.
- Minimum 2 years work experience in providing casework to people who have experienced trauma and who present with complex needs.
- Ability to undertake risk assessments and provide intentional therapeutic crisis responses to clients.
- Demonstrated ability to liaise and network with internal and external stakeholders.
- High level skills working with CALD communities and commitment to trauma informed practice.
- Experience and understanding of the impacts of trauma, housing, mental health, child protection and family, domestic and sexual violence in the lives of vulnerable communities.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of the policy and legislation context of practice with people seeking asylum.
- Bi or multi-lingual skills will be highly regarded.
- Lived experience as a refugee or person seeking asylum.
