About the role

We are seeking a compassionate and proactive Disability Support Worker to join our team (15-35 hours per week). You will work closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals with disabilities, providing support at home and in the community to enhance independence, wellbeing, and cultural connection.

You will work autonomously, offering one-on-one support while helping participants plan and maintain their activities and routines. A key focus will be empowering participants, promoting choice and control in their daily lives, and ensuring their needs are met with respect to their cultural values and identity.

Duties

  • Assist participants with domestic tasks, including tidying, cleaning, budget planning, and meal preparation.
  • Safely transport participants in your own vehicle to appointments and community activities.
  • Plan and organise social activities that align with participants' NDIS goals.
  • Encourage participants to engage in their communities, explore hobbies and interests, and maintain friendships and relationships.
  • Provide assistance with personal administration tasks.
  • Identify areas where participants may need additional support and report to management.
  • Maintain professionalism and cultural awareness, upholding ATSICHS Brisbane’s values at all times.
  • Complete administrative tasks such as clocking in/out of shifts, providing shift notes, and completing relevant documentation.

Training & Development

You will receive comprehensive onboarding and tailored training based on your prior experience. Shadow shifts and participant introductions will ensure you are well-prepared and confident in your role.

COVID-19 Requirement

  • Immunisation history showing you have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine is encouraged.

Required

  • A passion for supporting individuals with disabilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to person-centred, empowering, and inclusive practices.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.
  • A valid driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Availability to travel across the Logan and/or Brisbane region.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
  • Australian Federal Police Check.
  • Working with Children’s Card (Blue Card) or eligibility to apply.
  • NDIS Worker Screening (Yellow Card) or eligibility to apply.

Preferred

  • Relevant qualifications such as a Certificate III in Individual Support or equivalent.
  • Experience in a similar support worker or care-giving role.
  • Previous experience working with people with disabilities.
  • Flexibility to work outside core business hours to meet individual client needs.
