Our Cairns Office seeks a skilled Respectful Workplace Relations Officer for an emerging client base. As a Legal Practitioner candidate, you will have a new opportunity to focus on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients in need of legal advocacy on their rights for working in sexually safe workplaces. This new role allows for a creative, determined and politically sensitive lawyer to lift awareness and access to justice, aid in a variety of legal interventions, including early intervention. Funded under the Australian “Respect@Work” initiative, our role is to support access to justice for workers and former workers, statewide.

To be successful in this role, you will need a Practising Certificate (or ability to quickly get one), ideally some experience in the Civil Law jurisdiction, and two years’ expertise in case work advocacy.

  • Candidates with less experience are welcome to apply if you have presentation and/or workplace education experience.
  • Community Legal Education in this context means building and delivery of a new project plan for accessing workers or former workers in a variety of settings, including through online campaigns.
  • The Industrial Law arena following the Respect@Work Jenkins report is a unique Human Rights perspective concentrated in North Queensland from our Cairns Office.
  • Intersecting vulnerability by race and vulnerability to sexual harassment is clear.
  • Your ability to travel to our Head Office in Brisbane and many of our other offices and communities will be a distinct advantage.
  • We are happy to consider commencement in Brisbane with a graduated relocation to Cairns.

Our Workforce Development Strategy will enable you to undertake team, individual and formal training to succeed. Our Communications and Community Legal Education staff are here to aid the project. We will interview from early-November.
