The CETC leverages contemporary solutions to expand how professionals can be supported to provide high-quality care and support to children and young people, their carers, families and significant relationships. The CETC is a national team and this position will be part of the CETC team, located in Tasmania.

About the position

The Senior Practice Lead: Clinical Review (Ashley Youth Detention Centre) plays a pivotal role within the Centre for Excellence in Therapeutic Care (ACF) and AYDC to achieve its' vision and purpose through various activities. This position is integral to building the capacity of staff at AYDC to provide trauma-informed care and interventions to young people in youth detention. Through the building of relationships and trust, this position will lead independent reflective practice, clinical supervision, development and delivery of training and the provision of practice supports within the detention context for staff. The position will be onsite at AYDC three days a week, and one day at week located with the ACF Tasmania team. This position works closely with the ACF Clinical Support position also based within AYDC. Clinical supervision and management will be provided remotely by the CETC.
This role requires a deep understanding of the challenges faced by children and young people in youth justice, as well as the challenges facing staff who work within this environment and provide complex care and supervision. The Senior Practice Lead: Clinical Review is regarded within CETC as an expert knowledge source of contemporary practice approaches in youth justice, including an awareness of sector needs, the specific needs of AYDC, practice challenges and opportunities. A significant part of the role is to develop and maintain key strategic relationships with AYDC management and leadership, while bringing an advisory, independent therapeutic approach and lens to the environment.

What we're looking for - Key selection criteria

Are you ready to embark on a challenging journey that would give you exposure and invaluable experience? In order to succeed in this role, you will have/are:

  • Qualification - An appropriate post graduate qualification in trauma, social science or social work.
  • Solid experience - you have at least 5 years' experience working with children and young people who have experienced trauma, preferably in a youth justice and out-of-home care setting. You also have experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people, families, carers, and communities.
  • Team oriented skills - you are flexible, supportive and responsive in a dynamic and complex team environment.
  • Natural leader - you are all about empowering others, providing leadership in best practice initiatives, leading practice change and reform while maintaining key relationships. You thrive on developing meaningful partnerships.
  • Great communicator -you can listen to understand, write, deliver and evaluate training for professionals. You can adapt your language for a range of audiences.
  • Additionally, you will either have or able to obtain a WWVP, and a national police check, and membership of relevant professional association
