The Foundation currently provides a range of innovative national therapeutic services including specialist assessments and trauma counselling services for children, young people and their families who have experienced abuse and family violence, harmful sexual behaviour treatment programs for children and young people and therapeutic models of foster, residential and kinship care.
Back on Track is a Northern Territory Government initiative that provides an alternative to detention and pathways to divert young people (8-17 year olds) away from the youth justice system. Back on Track is delivered in Tennant Creek by Australian Childhood Foundation (ACF) and Saltbush Social Enterprises.
The program provides a holistic and culturally appropriate service model to support the young people to get back on track. The program addresses at-risk behaviour, consequences and restitution, life skills, cultural connection, family capacity building, supports engagement with education, and empowers young people to make safe decisions for everyone.
ACF is responsible for the assessment, case management and therapeutic support of all young people ages 8-17 years involved in the Back on Track program in Greater Darwin, Tenant Creek, Nhulunbuy and Katherine regions. The program aims to use trauma informed and culturally strong services to build resilience through enhancing strong family, community and cultural connections and re-engagement in education or employment. This holistic service model aims at equipping young people with the skills needed to deter them from reoffending and support enhanced well-being and safety.
The Youth Work Case Manager plays a key role in ensuring positive outcomes for the children and young people involved with the program, by providing case management support and contributing to a service children, young people and their families are able to meaningfully engage with and meets their needs.
