We are the third force in Australian politics and have representatives at all levels of government across the country. The Greens SA are hiring a staff member to lead our organising efforts during the upcoming federal election.

About the Role

We’re looking for someone passionate, organised and experienced to join The Greens SA team as the Federal Election Community Organiser. The successful applicant will work directly under the Party Director to engage with community organisations, local issues, and lead candidates to achieve the goals of our Federal Election strategy.

The Federal Election Community Organiser will support our lead lower house candidates to connect with community organisations and local events throughout the federal election campaign. They will provide executive assistance and facilitate relationships with community groups and local leaders. This is an exciting role for a passionate and driven people-person who wants to grow our Greens movement. It is imperative that the successful applicant be skilled in building supportive and productive relationships.

Conditions

Salary: Between Level 3.1 and Level 3.4 of the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award, subject to skills and experience (currently between $74,732 and $79,135).

Workload: 0.8 FTE (4 days per week), moving to full time from April 7 or when election is called, whichever is earlier.

Duration: The position will be offered on a short-term contract ending June 8 or 2 weeks after the Federal Election, whichever is earlier.

Start date: February 10, 2025.

Reports to: Party Director.

Primary responsibilities

  • Work to deliver (and support members and volunteers to deliver) campaign outcomes in line with our federal election strategy.
  • Provide executive assistance to lead candidates.
  • Engage with community groups and local leaders to connect them with the campaign.
  • Identify and develop opportunities for local engagement and special projects.
  • Support communications with local community, members, volunteers, and supporters.
  • Work with the Party Director and Election Campaign Committee to ensure the party is prepared for the upcoming election.
  • Provide support to Greens SA staff in relation to other party activities including event organising, fundraising and member engagement.
  • Other duties as directed.

General requirements

  • Work in accordance with Greens SA Charter, Constitution and Code of Conduct.
  • You must hold, or be prepared to acquire, a Working With Children Check.
  • The ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings at times, is essential to this role.

Required

  • Understanding of and commitment to the Greens SA principles and policies.
  • Great with people, able to work well in a team, as well as to influence and motivate others and manage.
  • Strong organisational and problem solving skills, including managing your time in a fast-paced environment, multi-tasking, creating and achieving goals, and finding creative solutions.
  • High level oral and written communication skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to provide clear and compassionate responses in a challenging environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to pick up new IT systems quickly.
  • Demonstrated experience working supportively and collaboratively with a diverse range of people.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with community groups through a campaign or organisation.

Desirable

  • Experience working in politics or advocacy, and a sound understanding of campaign strategy and tactics.
  • An understanding of the South Australian political landscape.
  • Experience using Greens systems like Civi, Rocket, or gVIRS, or experience with a similar CRM in your work or volunteering role.
  • Experience with managing another person's email inbox and diary appointments.
