APAN is the peak national body seeking justice for Palestine in Australia. We are looking for an Executive Officer and Community Organising Lead to continue our work to educate, skill, grow and mobilise our supporters to bring about a change in how the campaign for justice in Palestine is understood and how Israel is held to account.

APAN has a small, passionate and highly skilled staff team working across the areas of community mobilisation, political engagement, media, digital communications and fundraising/events. This role leads on our work with community organising, skilling and resourcing groups and individuals to be effective advocates for change including building the next generation of Palestinian leaders in Australia.

The position also plays a key role in ensuring that there is coordination across all areas of our work and in monitoring our progress against our strategic plan. The position will ensure the effective resourcing of APAN’s executive, onboard new staff and ensure that staff are supported in working in a difficult context given the genocide taking place in Gaza.

Work location is flexible.

Key selection criteria

  • Strong understanding of Palestinian human rights issues and political struggle and an excellent understanding of the Australian political landscape and the current positioning of Palestine within that landscape
  • Experience in management/leadership in a community organisation including a good understanding of governance requirements
  • Experience and expertise in developing and leading impactful community organising/campaigning to bring about social and/or political change including skills development for activists
  • Experience and highly developed expertise in the development and implementation of effective strategies for change
  • Excellent communication skills and a thorough understanding of messaging best practice for campaigns and advocacy.
  • Highly developed cultural competency and expertise in working with a diversity of supporters
