About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic professional with experience in communications and media who can assist in shaping and growing our communication and media presence nationally.

The successful candidate will bring demonstrated communications experience in implementing AYAC’s communications strategy and raise AYAC’s profile as the leading knowledge source on youth issues in Australia.

The role will oversee AYAC's digital platforms, including the website and social media channels, maintain AYAC’s brand, and delivering creative brand collateral that effectively communicates our values and objectives to key audiences, such as young people, national, state and territory youth peak bodies, and government.

Able to respond to media requests and identify media opportunities, the position plays a key role in maintaining and developing AYAC’s stakeholder relationships, including members, by facilitating engagement opportunities.

The Communications Co-ordinator will provide support to presentations, events, publications, and reports, including developing content and communications material.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish relationships with the media, identify media opportunities, and increase our print, broadcast and online media presence.
  • Develop and promote content on AYAC’s communication channels, including social media and website.
  • Develop, implement and review the AYAC’s communication strategy consistent with changing and developing trends and organisational goals.
  • Develop and implement guidelines and processes for managing the AYAC brand internally and externally.
  • Develop content for and organise design and print of brand collateral and reports as needed.
  • Work collaboratively across the AYAC team to provide media and communications support as required.
  • Create and prepare analytic reports as required.

To be considered for this position

You will have keen interest in social justice issues in Australia, insight and understanding of the youth sector. You will have a can-do attitude with strong attention to detail, and the ability to prioritise tasks with efficiently and effectively.

A motivated and innovative team player, your skills and experience will include:

  • Qualifications in communications, media or other relevant discipline.
  • Extensive experience in media relations, and capacity to build strong connections across all media platforms.
  • Experience in developing, implementing and evaluating a communications strategy.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills and ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively to different audiences
  • Ability to conceptualise and lead engagement opportunities for a diverse range of key stakeholders and audiences with different communication needs.
  • Strong interpersonal, organisational and time management skills and capacity to respect confidentiality, work independently, innovatively with thoughtfulness and efficiency within a resource limited environment.
  • Proficiency in the use of software applications and digital coordination tools in creating effective and inclusive content, and the ability to critically interpret analytics data to maximise engagement and impact.
