About the assignment

We’re looking for a Child Protection Policy Support volunteer who can live and volunteer for 6 months in the Solomons.

This assignment seeks to assist CSSI staff to review and update the Juvenile centre's systems and procedures with regards to Child Protection.

To be considered for this role, you’ll need to have at least 5 years of professional experience in social work and or policy development relating to Children and youth.

You will be working alongside the team to review the current draft Child Protection Policy for implementation in order to mainstream and promote child-safeguarding. 

About the Partner Organisation 

The Correctional Service of Solomon Island(CSSI), based in Honiara, is a key component of the Solomon Islands Criminal Justice System. Their mission is to enhance the safety of the community by providing secure and humane correctional containment and facilitating the rehabilitation of prisoners. The Correctional Centre has a facility for juvenile boys but no facility for juvenile girls. There is one juvenile centre for 14-18 year olds in Honiara, and two juvenile holding cells in other provinces. There are also sensitive high risk cases accommodating 19-21 year olds.

The CSSI has a draft Child Protection Policy already being developed but it is yet to be implemented and training rolled out. Following on from a previous volunteer the organisation needs support to roll out and implement the Child Protection Policy a for all staff within CSSI, as well other stakeholders and partnering agencies.

Requirements

• All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV). 
• A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.  
• A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.  
• Additional requirements for this assignment include a First Aid Certificate.
