We’re looking for a Meteorology Officer who can live and volunteer in Tonga for 12 months.
The Ministry of Meteorology, Energy, Information, Disaster Management, Environment, Climate Change, and Communications (MEIDECC), which has this role based in Neiafu Vava'u Tonga, plays a vital part in overseeing a wide range of technical operations. It comprises eight departments including the Computer Emergency Response Team(CERT). Since its establishment in 2015, MEIDECC has grown to become the largest ministry within the Government of Tonga.
The volunteer would capacity build staff to operate independently as a backup to the national centre in case of a disaster. They would endeavour to enhance weather forecast accuracy and the technical capacity of local staff. Support is also required with raising of public awareness to encourage interest in meteorology. This role may require the volunteer to spend up to six months in Tongatapau before transferring to Vava'u.
