About the role

The Assistant Manager's role is to assist the Rehoming Manager and supervise the day-to-day operations of the Centre. This is a hands-on role with the animals. You will work with our dedicated team and volunteers to ensure the welfare of animals in care including dogs, cats, livestock, and small pets is to the highest standard. Including progressing animals through the Centre efficiently and effectively to maximise animal welfare and rehoming.

The Willa Rehoming Centre is an exciting phase with extensive renovations occurring through the administration, customer and animal housing facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Motivate and provide clear direction to the team and volunteers relating to day to day operational activities.
  • Work closely with the Rehoming Managers to ensure the smooth running of the centre with seamless animal movement and communication of person and animal cases
  • Provide clear, accurate and prompt responses to queries with council, other departments, and the public
  • Assist with the training and management of the team
  • Coordinate and chair toolbox meetings and team meetings, including safety and maintenance
  • Providing a high standard of animal care including cleaning of animal housing, administering routine veterinary medications and treatments
  • Complete behaviour assessments for dogs and cats, provide positive based enrichment and behaviour management programs for animals
  • Impounding and reuniting lost animals with owners
  • Assisting customers with pet meet and greets and adoptions
  • Complete administrative duties

What are the minimum requirements for this position?

  • Certificate III or IIII in Animal studies or relevant qualification
  • Current drivers licence
  • Local Council knowledge
  • Experience with animal care in a professional environment with confidence in dog and cat handling skills
  • Exceptional customer service experience
  • Supervisor or Management Experience to motivate and achieve high productivity

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated affinity with animals,
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and motivate others to achieve high productivity and standards of work
  • Relevant customer service training
  • Intermediate level computer skills with experience in data management software and Microsoft Office
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Available to work weekends and Public holidays
