Our Organisation: 

The WESTERN MINE WORKERS ALLIANCE (WMWA) is a Pilbara based Alliance between Australia’s two largest and most influential mining industry unions, the Australian Workers’ Union (AWU) and the Mining and Energy Union (MEU).  

The AWU and MEU are two of the oldest and most influential trade Union, representing over 100,000 working Australians. The WMWA is focused on improving the job security, pay and conditions mineworkers across the Pilbara.   

The WMWA is currently looking for a Campaigns Organiser to join our team.  The position will be Pilbara based, residential being preferred and FIFO options may be considered working predominately in the mining industry. 

Responsibilities: 

Ideally, we are looking for someone who can: 

  • Express and demonstrate Union values
  • Structure organising conversations to recruit and move members to action
  • Recruit new members whilst servicing current members
  • Create and work to organising plans
  • Negotiate enterprise agreements
  • Recognise and develop potential workplace delegates
  • Visit existing work sites and identifying new worksites
  • Assist members with grievances and enquires
  • Participate in workplace campaigns
  • Work with HSRs and Delegates to ensure all workplaces are safe 

Essential Selection Criteria 

  • Possess and practice Trade Union values
  • Have worked for a Trade Union as an Organiser or have long term experience as a workplace Delegate 
  • You are willing to learn new approaches and have fresh ideas, you have a positive attitude and are a team player.
  • Experience using Office 365 and CRM Databases  
  • Ability to exercise confidentiality and discretion
  • High level of attention to detail and the ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Ability to live remotely
  • To fit the criteria to hold a Federal Right of Entry Permit, as in you can prove you are a fit and proper person with no criminal conviction.
  • Full Drivers Licence 

Desirable Selection Criteria  

  • You have a proven record of running campaigns and organising members.
  • You have a reasonable understanding of the mining industry
  • You are familiar with WHS legislation and the Fair Work Act
