POSITION DESCRIPTION 

The AWU National Office is seeking a part-time Research Assistant based in our National Office, Granville NSW.

The position would be suited to an applicant that wants to structure part time work around their studies or a suitably qualified person who is simply seeking to work 2 – 4 days per week. 

The AWU National Research Assistant will report to the National Economist. The National Research Assistant will provide detailed research and reports that will allow AWU State Branches to campaign, organise and advocate around regulatory, policy and industry issues affecting the companies or industries AWU members work for.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS INCLUDE: 

  • Company level reporting – researching data and producing reports to inform AWU campaign and member servicing activities. Research would include company ownership structures, identifying key shareholders, competitors, supply chains, regulatory challenges, financial performance and general market analyst data.
  • Industry monitoring – regularly assessing and providing insights on publicly and privately available macroeconomic and industry datasets, and AWU member industry news.
  • Drafting reports and submissions – assisting in the drafting of formal correspondence and parliamentary submissions to advance AWU campaign and public policy objectives.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Studying economics, public policy, law or a related field at an undergraduate level
  • Have a strong interest in understanding principles of public policy advocacy, industrial relations, organising and campaign development
  • Ability to analyse, interpret and synthesise data from multiple sources
  • Ability to identify and analyse complex problems while offering options for solutions.
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills
  • Excellent written ability and ability to communicate complex data and problems clearly and succinctly.
  • High level of news and market information consumption.
