ABOUT YOUR ORGANISATION

Ballan Neighbourhood House (BNH) is a responsive and dynamic community space that encompasses a wide range of activities, programs, and events. We bring people together to connect, learn, reduce social isolation and contribute to Ballan (and surroundings).

BNH is located in Ballan, a community of 3,392 (2021 Census) in the Moorabool Shire, Victoria.

BNH is an incorporated charitable institution that was established in 1991 with the purpose of advancing social and public welfare by;

  1. Advancing mental health and preventing social isolation;
  2. Providing a physical location where it supports individuals to undertake activities, or work on projects, in the company of others.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This part-time role is the public face of BNH and has the operational responsibility for ensuring the organisation thrives.

You will work closely with community to understand their needs, support the Committee of Governance (CoG) to ensure compliance and deliver the strategic plan and support an amazing team of volunteers and staff

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Demonstrated understanding of the Not-for-profit/social enterprise sector, with a strong working knowledge of community development principles and their application to community centre operations.
  • Proven ability to effectively plan, design, implement, market, and evaluate community activities and programs, ensuring they align with community needs and strategic objectives.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining strong partnerships with the community, organisations, and government bodies, along with a capacity for community advocacy.
  • Highly developed skills in writing and managing funding submissions, grant applications, statistical reporting, and office administration.
  • Experience in fiscal management and accountability
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a community-based organisation, with the ability to work autonomously and in a team, manage conflict effectively, and oversee the recruitment, supervision, and development of staff, tutors, facilitators, volunteers, and community members.
  • Strong decision-making, communication, and negotiation skills, with a clear understanding of risk assessment and management, problem-solving, and a commitment to inclusiveness and community awareness.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office, financial accounting systems, and social media for the development of reports, submissions, and general correspondence.
