We offer:

  • Salary $61,000 per annum + superannuation.
  • Salary packaging (up to $15,899 a year, + meal/entertainment benefit of $2,650 a year).

The role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Ballardong Aboriginal Corporation (BAC), as a Ballardong Ranger and to Care for Country under the direction of the Senior Ballardong Ranger and senior staff. You'll be involved in carrying out land management and conservation activities with landholders and stakeholders, and engaging in cultural burning, cultural heritage management, ecological restoration, catchment management, pest management, community engagement, and threatened species management.

You will work closely with Ballardong Elders to deliver land management activities across the Ballardong region. You should be both a team-player and able to work independently whilst assuring proper consultation is maintained with Ballardong people. Training will be provided as part of this role.

There are currently a minimum of four positions for female rangers and four positions for male rangers. This recruitment pool will be used to fill current vacancies and future vacancies as they arise.

Location

Based in Northam. There will be frequent travel required across the Ballardong region to carry out land management activities and to meet with community members and stakeholders.

Hours

Full-time/part time/casual/fixed term.

About us

Ballardong Aboriginal Corporation represents the Traditional Owners of the Ballardong region of the southwest of Western Australia. We work to manage native title benefits, while also advancing and strengthening Noongar culture, language, heritage, and society.

Ballardong refers to the Noongar language or dialectal group north-east of Perth, covering an area of approximately 63,000 sq km.

You will:

Under the direction of the Senior Ballardong Ranger, the Ballardong Ranger is responsible for contributing to the effective maintenance of reserves and other lands as required within the Ballardong Region. Core responsibilities surround supporting the management of biodiversity and conservation values, and cultural heritage. The Ballardong Ranger supports the maintenance and presentation of facilities and assets, participates in cultural burning, where required participates in fire and emergency response, and works with key partners, including landholders, land management partners, volunteers and Aboriginal communities.

Selection Criteria

Essential:

  • Commitment to and passion for Caring for Country, land management practices, conservation initiatives, or related fields.
  • High level of commitment to learning and development, with a genuine interest in formally learning more about land management and conservation.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment and willingness to learn from experienced mentors.
  • Sound communication skills and the ability to engage respectfully with colleagues, stakeholders, and community members.
  • Physically fit for on-Country field work, including physical labour, operating machinery, and walking through dense vegetation and on uneven ground.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in land management or conservation, through training, volunteering, or paid employment.
  • Basic understanding of safety protocols and procedures, with a willingness to learn and adhere to them.
  • Capacity to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing organisational needs.
  • Current WA Drivers Licence (C Class minimum).
