Balwyn Community Centre (BCC) is a vibrant community based and managed neighbourhood house where people meet to pursue leisure and learning opportunities. The primary focus of the centre is to provide programs and services to support well-being, community involvement and connectedness, for those in the local community and surrounding suburbs. An occasional care childcare centre is also operated by the Centre.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a skilled worker who has a passion for connecting with people and driving community engagement through the delivery of relevant programs and activities. The incumbent will undertake programming and engagement initiatives to ensure a vibrant and achievable program of classes, activities and services that meet the existing and emerging needs of the local community and encourage community participation. Ongoing development of new and innovative classes and programs is an essential part of this role, tapping into the needs of the local community to provide opportunities for social connections that minimise isolation and enable people to connect with others. Program areas at Balwyn Community Centre include classes and shared interest groups, occasional childcare, community garden, tennis court hire and room hire.

The incumbent will coordinate appropriate and timely promotion of all programs and activities across the centre utilising relevant marketing tools. 

ABOUT YOU

The successful applicant will be dedicated to community wellbeing and providing opportunities for social connections that minimise isolation and enable people to connect with others.

A background in programming in a similar setting, together with strong communication and interpersonal skills and knowledge of social media and marketing tools to support engagement initiatives is desirable.

Completion of a relevant tertiary qualification and/or experience working in a similar role is desirable together with an understanding of the neighbourhood house sector.

Demonstrated experience designing programs to meet the needs of particular target groups.

An understanding of the philosophy underpinning community organisations.
