Belgium Avenue Neighbourhood House (BANH Inc) is seeking a Neighbourhood House Host to help welcome community at our locations in Collingwood and Richmond.

about us

BANH Inc runs neighbourhood houses on the Collingwood and North Richmond public housing estates. The houses are a friendly meeting place for the local community and are open daily for drop-ins. The houses offer programs and activities including art and crafts, community lunches, Tai Chi, Yarra Men’s Shed, computer classes and music groups.

about the role

This new role will play an important role to create positive experiences for people who visit the Neighbourhood Houses.

The usual work times will be 9.30am to 2.30pm at:

  • BANH, 9 Belgium Avenue, Richmond 3121 (drop in hours are Mon – Fri 9am-3pm)
  • Collingwood Neighbourhood House, Hoddle St, Collingwood (drop in hours are Mon-Fri 9am-1pm)

Working hours: Part time 10 to 25 hours a week fixed term for 6 months with possible extension. Job share opportunities may be available for the right candidates.

Social Community, Homecare & Disability Services (SCHADS) Award, Level 2

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome and assist community members at the Neighbourhood House.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation throughout the facilities.
  • Set up rooms and spaces for activities, ensuring hospitality supplies are available.
  • Assist with financial administration such as data entry, managing receipts and office tasks such as photocopying and scanning
  • Answering the telephone, emails and helping with room booking enquiries
  • Keeping records of activities, organising posters and flyers
  • Ordering supplies (cleaning, stationery, and bathroom), and maintain hospitality stocks
  • Participating in team activities, open and close the building, and report maintenance issues.
  • Support in improving the presentation and physical space of BANH.

ABOUT YOU:

Essential:

  • Fluent in English and at least one additional language.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to connect with local residents.
  • Strong ties to or knowledge of the Collingwood or Richmond public housing estate.
  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, emails).
  • Experience in cleaning with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work efficiently, adapt under time constraints, and manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in community engagement activities.

Highly Desirable:

  • Current First Aid certificate.
  • Interest in creative arts or music.

Safety screening:

  • All applicants must be willing to undertake a Working With Children’s Check and Police Check prior to any offer of employment as a part of our recruitment assessment process.
