About the Service

Barry Beckett Children’s Centre (BBCC) is a community not-for-profit early childhood education and care service located on Wurundjeri land, near Merri Creek in Coburg.

We are an inclusive service, with a deep commitment to social justice, inclusion, sustainability, and reconciliation. We strive for excellence in teaching and care, supporting ongoing learning and continuous improvement for our staff to support our teaching practices.

BBCC is licensed for 93 children per day and provides quality programs in both long day care, integrated and sessional kindergarten.

About the Position

Barry Beckett is seeking a dedicated Centre Director role for their highly regarded Service. You must have a genuine passion and commitment to community-based early childhood education and care. You will work collaboratively with the Committee of Management and an experienced team of educators and staff to deliver high-quality early childhood education and care. You must share in the values and philosophies of the Barry Beckett Children’s Centre community and ensure the program aligns with the National Quality Standard.

  • Is responsible for the operational management of the Service, including continuous improvement, staff wellbeing, sustainability initiatives, and the further development of the Reconciliation Action plan.

Key responsibilities

  • Operational Management: Ensure the service delivers a high-quality early childhood service, is safe and well presented, meets all legislative requirements, maintains utilisation, has the necessary policies and procedures, and is financially viable.
  • Educational Leadership: overseeing the implementation of a high-quality early childhood program under the National Quality Standard and providing mentorship for the educational coordinator and team.
  • Staff Leadership: provide excellent leadership and guidance to a diverse staff team with a strong focus on continuous improvement, staff wellbeing, professional learning and developing a positive workplace culture.
  • Committee of Management: Work cooperatively with CoM in providing effective leadership of Barry Beckett Children’s Centre. Provide regular reports to the CoM on the progress of the Service and seek or provide clear and concise advice and recommendations to enable effective decisions and ensure a clear and strategic direction for Barry Beckett Children’s Centre.
  • Customer and Community Service: Foster strong community relationships, including managing enquiries, tours and orientation for new families as well as appropriately representing and promoting Barry Beckett Children’s Centre to the wider community.

Essential requirements

  • Minimum ACECQA recognised Diploma in Early Childhood Education
  • Current First Aid Certificate, including CPR, anaphylaxis and asthma training (or be willing to obtain).
  • Willingness to be in the role of Nominated Supervisor.
  • Holds a valid and current Working with Children Check or VIT registration.
  • Willing to obtain a police check.
  • Thorough understanding of the Education and Care National Law and Regulations, Family Assistance Law, Kindergarten funding the National Quality Standard and Approved Learning Frameworks.
  • Experience or understanding of reporting requirements under ACNC, Funded Agency, KIM System, Inclusion Funding applications and requirements, PRODA and Provider Entry Point (PEP).
  • Extensive understanding of the Child Safe Standards, Reportable Conduct Scheme and mandatory reporting.

Highly desirable

  • At least three years managing a community-run early childhood education and care service
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
  • Dedication to upholding the highest standard of education and care
  • Ability to support team members with knowledge, coaching and support.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritise and manage their time effectively.
